“Running Out Of Time” is the sixth CD released by the infamous Big Walter Smith and his Groove Merchants band. With over 53 years in the music business and spending 36 years in Minneapolis, Minnesota Walter prides himself as making music with some of the most talented musicians in the Midwest. A prime example of talented Midwest musicians is Groove Merchant bass man Chris Johnson. Chris did a terrific writing and arranging job on “Silver Dollar,” his original song.
This CD is a variety of Big Walter’s favorite songs by some of his favorite artist, like “I’m A Hog For You” by Chicago’s Casey Jones, long time friend & drummer al Albert Collins’ Ice Breakers band who worked with Walter for many years.
Big Walter is overjoyed with the talents of Ronnie Baker Brooks, son of guitar legend long time friend Lonnie Brooks. Watching Ronnie grow into a spectacular musician has been a wonder to watch and recording tow of his original songs has been a pleasure. “Hurt No More” and Big Walter’s version of “Hit Me On The Hipper” which Big Walter calls “Code 911.”
Big Walter’s love of big horn bands includes Roomful of Blues, so we included their hit “Running Out Of Time” as the title song of this new CD.
We could not forget our friend Luther Allison the real “Soul Fixing Man.”
This CD has been a labor of love, take a listen and enjoy.
Let’s keep the Blues alive.
