LINER NOTES (re-release CD)
“Big Storm Comin’” is a re-release of the original project done on cassette. It was recorded on a cold winter night in February of 1991 at the Whiskey Junction bar on the West Bank of the Mississippi River in Minneapolis, MN. Due to the overwhelming requests from our fans, Big Walter wanted to share these tunes on CD. This new CD was also recoded live on April 22, 2006 at the Dugout in Mahtaomdi, MN by some of the most talented musicians in the Twin Cities.
After 14 years Scott Graves still holds the honor of music director and lead guitarist of the Groove Merchant band with the talent of Chris Johnson laying down the solid bass licks and Patrick Hulme keeping the drum beat in the pocket, tied with the magic fingers of Tim Wick on Keyboards and the dynamic horn section featuring Jim Kogl on Tenor Sax, Dan Eikmeir on Trumpet, Randy “Big Slide” Evensen on Trombone proudly make up the Groove Merchant Band which are one of the most honored and awarded bands in the Midwest.
A special THANK YOU to our families, long time friends, fans and music buyers who have supported us over the years, the owners and staff at the Dugout Bar for opening their doors and hearts to us and to Toby Silva for doing such a great job with the sound production and to our long time friend Greg Harder of ‘Harder Productions” for doing an outstanding live recording.
“Keeping the Blues Alive”
With Love & Peace to you,
Big Walter, Shirley Smith & The Groove Merchants
